Healing from the Inside Out—One Smoothie at a Time

I’ve always believed that food is medicine—but nothing reaffirmed that more than when I reviewed my own functional lab results.

I know how critical nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and antioxidants are for cellular energy, gut health, and detoxification. But even with a clean diet, I learned that stress, genetics, and gut imbalances can silently deplete us.

After running a comprehensive nutrition panel, I discovered I had elevated oxidative stress and signs of mitochondrial dysfunction. My magnesium and riboflavin (vitamin B2) needs were high, and my body was calling for more antioxidant and digestive support. My gut health results also revealed an imbalanced microbiome that needed attention.

Instead of reaching straight for a cabinet full of pills, I paused—and turned to my passion: whole, functional food. I looked at the rows of vibrant microgreens I had, and realized the solution was growing right in front of me.

I began building my healing from the ground up—starting with my gut.

Each morning, I now blend a gut-loving, antioxidant-packed smoothie that supports the very areas flagged in my lab results. Here’s what goes into it:

  • Homemade probiotic-rich yogurt – made from raw milk and left with the whey intact for added protein, probiotics, and gut-healing benefits. If you are interested, here is where I learned to make my own yogurt: https://youtu.be/vgc26G2voao?si=aReEM0fbopmFxw0D

  • A generous handful of kale microgreens – rich in B vitamins, magnesium, and sulforaphane, a powerful antioxidant

  • Local raw honey – for gentle antimicrobial support and seasonal allergy help. https://www.hillsidehivesbville.com is a great local source!

  • Fresh-picked organic berries – loaded with vitamin C and polyphenols

  • A splash of Ceylon cinnamon – for blood sugar support and warmth I use the great organic option found at https://www.azurestandard.com/?a_aid=dac7ddcfa2

This smoothie has become my daily ritual. It’s more than just nourishment—it's a tangible reminder that I am actively supporting my healing. Since making it a part of my morning routine, I’ve noticed real shifts in my health: clearer thinking, more stable energy throughout the day, and less bloating and digestive discomfort. My skin looks more vibrant, and I feel more grounded and nourished—like my body is finally getting what it’s been asking for. It’s incredible how something so simple can create such meaningful change when it's made with purpose and packed with functional, healing ingredients.

If you’re feeling tired, foggy, inflamed, or “off,” I encourage you to listen to your body and consider how food might help shift the dial. You don’t need to run advanced testing to start, although we do highly encourage it. Begin by adding more color, more live food, and more intention into your meals. Something as simple as a scoop of microgreens in your smoothie can pack a powerful punch.

This journey is personal, but it’s also deeply universal. Healing takes time. It takes curiosity. And sometimes, it takes a good smoothie.

Rooted in wellness,
Courtney
